  • ¾ cup (175 ml) granulated sugar, divided 
  • 6 tbsp (90 ml) unsalted butter, softened 
  • 1 egg
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) buttermilk
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla 
  • 2 tbsp (25 ml) unsalted butter 
  • 3 plums, each cut into 12 slices
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice 
  • Sweetened Whipped Cream or ice cream
  • Flat Beater
  • Preheated oven to 350°F (180°C)
  • 9-inch (23 cm) round metal cake pan
