  • 1/2 teaspoon asafetida
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1-inch piece cinnamon stick
  • 1/2-inch fresh ginger, grated or minced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 green chillies or jalapeos, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 1/2 cups dry-pressed cottage cheese, crumbled
  • 3/4 cups unsweetened dried grated coconut
  • 3/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste
