  • 5 tablespoons toor dal, rinsed
  • 5 cups water
  • 8 oz green beans, trimmed and chopped
  • 1 bunch fresh dill, finely chopped
  • sea salt to taste
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
  • 3 dried red chilies, broken into pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
  • generous handful dried curry leaves
  • 3 tablespoons grated coconut
