  • 3 tablespoons firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fine cognac
  • 1½ tablespoons finely grated orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup premium semisweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 2¾ cups quick-cook oats
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure orange extract
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecan halves, lightly toasted, cooled, and coarsely chopped
