  • 6 whole cloves
  • 8 green cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 medium onions, cut into chunks
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • A 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and cut in half
  • ½ firmly packed cup stemmed cilantro leaves, or ¼ cup dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi)
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala (see Notes)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt, whisked until smooth
