American Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup vegetable shortening (I use Crisco)
  • 6 to 7 tablespoons cold water
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1½ pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced about 1/8 inch thick (about 6 cups) (see Note)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
